Hannah Flowers was born 1989 in Tasmania, Australia and currently resides in Scotland, UK, where she draws inspiration from the nature and history surrounding her home.
Boiled down to its simplest component her work is about the intensity of aesthetic response. Combining contrasting themes and colours to create a tension between dualistic forces. Her work is both repulsive and alluring, grotesque and beautiful. The protagonists exude a quiet power behind the soft and feminine, despite their often compromised state.
The way in which things are crafted are important to her, using the finest quality pigments and materials, and working with diligence and care using time honoured techniques to create her pieces. “I like to be very hands on and a bit old fashioned while I’m making my art, it feels more romantic. I actively avoid digital mediums and screens where possible”
Both her paintings and tattoos are collected around the world. Her work has been published in Beautiful Bizarre Magazine , Olinjär, Tattoo Life, Inked magazine and the Anatomical Tattoo.
She has most recently shown paintings at Roq la Rue (Seattle), Haven Gallery (New York), Modern Eden (San Francisco) and Beinart Gallery (Melbourne).
